Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
